As the clock strikes 2025, we usher in a new year full of joy. At this wonderful moment of bidding farewell to the old and welcoming the new, HANTAI wishes you all a happy new year, good health, and all the best! Looking back on the past year, 2024 was undoubtedly a year filled with surprises and transformations. Among these, the successful landing of Chang’e-6 on the far side of the moon was undoubtedly one of the most eye-catching achievements.
During this lunar journey, the Five-Starred Red Flag carried by Chang’e-6 unfolded gracefully on the far side of the moon. To everyone’s surprise, the material of this flag was unusual—it was crafted from basalt fiber. So, what exactly is basalt fiber, and what unique qualities does it possess that made Chang’e-6 select it from among numerous materials for this prestigious task?
The extreme temperature differences, intense cosmic radiation, and microgravity environment on the lunar surface pose nearly impossible demands on materials. Yet, basalt fiber, or more specifically, basalt fiber materials, excel under these extreme conditions. They exhibit exceptional thermal insulation and radiation resistance properties, capable of enduring a vast temperature range from -269°C to +760°C. The thermal conductivity coefficient of basalt fiber is significantly lower than that of aramid fiber, glass fiber, carbon fiber, and stainless steel fiber. This makes basalt fiber materials an ideal choice for the harsh environment on the lunar surface.

Furthermore, the chemical stability and corrosion resistance of basalt fiber are equally impressive. Its acid and alkali resistance are superior to glass fiber, and its durability, weather resistance, UV resistance, water resistance, and antioxidant properties are all outstanding. These characteristics enable basalt fiber to withstand the erosion of various chemicals in the harsh lunar environment and maintain its original properties.
It is also worth mentioning that basalt fibre is a green material. Its production process produces very little waste, little pollution to the environment, and the product can be naturally degraded after abandonment, fully in line with the concept of sustainable development. In today’s relentless pursuit of environmental conservation and sustainable development, this distinctive attribute of basalt fibre has undoubtedly garnered it greater popularity.
In addition to the above advantages, basalt fibre also has the characteristics of light weight, high strength and high sound absorption coefficient. It is also a good insulating material with a wide range of applications in aerospace, wind/photovoltaic power generation, marine, automotive and construction.
Having learned about the supreme performance of basalt fiber, HANTAI started and has been committed to the research, development and production of basalt fibre products since 2014.
Nowadays, with the advancement of science and technology and the increasing needs of people, the application scenarios of basalt fibre are expanding. From the vastness of space to the vast earth and the deep ocean, basalt fibre is changing our world with its unique charm.
The moon is ready to welcome the arrival of basalt fibre, are you ready too? Let’s look forward to the future of basalt fibre in the field of materials to bloom more bright light!
